Walters' Goal Sinks Arsenal As Chelsea Beat Fulham To Maintain Top Position

Walters' goal sinks Arsenal as Chelsea beat Fulham to maintain top position
A hat-trick from Andre Schurrle ensured that Chelsea maintained their position at the top of the Premier League with a 3-1 win over west London rivals Fulham on Saturday.'

The hosts, in coach's Felix Magath's second game in charge of the club, managed to keep the game deadlocked throughout the first half before Schurrle slotted home in the 52nd minute following some good work from Eden Hazard.

Hazard was once again the architect when the German doubled the lead 13 minutes later, and Schurrle completed his hat-trick shortly afterwards, tucking neatly the ball past Martin Stekelenburg to put the game past Fulham.

Despite Johnny Heitinga's late consolation, the result keeps Magath's men anchored to the bottom of the league on just 21 points.

Chelsea's Performance has justified José Mourinho's complaints about a lack of recovery time after midweek jaunts across the continent, though it actually ended up an indication as to why Chelsea's title pursuit is far from unlikely.

Elsewhere, Arsenal opened the gap between them and Chelsea after losing 1-0 to Stoke City.

Not one of Arsenal's favourite grounds, and it showed in their display. Arsene Wenger's team didn't show up and did little to trouble Stoke.

With the game heading towards a goalless draw, Laurent Koscielny was adjudged to have handled Walters' flick inside the box, and the Republic of Ireland international stepped up to dispatch the penalty and dent the Gunners' title hopes.

Chelsea have now moved four points clear on the table, with Manchester City not in action in the league because of their Capital one Cup game against Sunderland.
