FIFA Doctored Nigeria World Cup Qualification, Says Former Ethiopian Coach

Former Coach of Ethiopia’s Walya Antelopes, Sewnet Bishaw, says Nigeria’s 2014 world cup qualification was doctored by the game’s governing body Federation of International Football Association (FIFA).

Bishaw believes FIFA favorably disposed to Ethiopia qualifying for the 2014 World Cup and ensured African Champions (Nigeria) made it through to the World Cup finals instead.

The Super Eagles made it to the global soccer showpiece at Ethiopia’s expense after finishing the job in Calabar and Bishaw who was sacked as Ethiopia coach after he failed to lead his country to the World Cup, says the Super Eagles qualification was followed FIFA’s script.

“FIFA didn’t want us (Ethiopia) to qualify (for the World Cup) because who knows Ethiopian football and who wants us to qualify when we were playing against the current African Champions?” the coach told Football411 in an interview.

Mr Bishaw says FIFA had by its action, brought the game to disrepute.

“We played our hearts out and we wanted to win and qualify for the World Cup but FIFA didn’t like that. They awarded penalties for them (Nigeria) which were never penalties, and these things happened because FIFA wants them to qualify for the World Cup”, Mr Bishaw moaned.

Nigeria (and not Ethiopia) will be flying one of Africa’s flags at the World Cup in June this year.
