Nyanya, Abuja Bomb Blast Scene In Pictures, Eyewithness Report (Viewer Discretion Advised)

Bomb blasts at a Popular bus station in the outskirt of Abuja killed "dozens of people" on Monday, a spokesman for the state-run emergency services said. "It's correct to say dozens of people were killed following the bomb blasts in Nyanya Bus Park this morning,” Manzo Ezekiel of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said.

Several vehicles, including about 12 government-owned high capacity buses operated by the Abuja Mass Transit Company Limited, were destroyed in the attack.

Eye witness accounts say casualties are high but can’t confirm the exact figures.

The Nigerian army, NSCDC officials, Fire Service, NEMA, the DSS and Police have been on ground battling to contain the situation.

“I was waiting to get on a bus when I heard a deafening explosion then smoke. People were running around in panic,” said Mimi Daniels, who works in Abuja. Another blast followed, she said.

One of the victims at the Park, Kunle Bamidele, told Journalists that he was on a queue to get on a bus when he and other passengers heard a loud blast and scampered to safety.

According to James, a resident who lives close to the scene of the explosion, told correspondent, “Me and my family are still in doors and may not go out today because there are frightening rumours of another possible attack.”

There was no immediate claim of responsibility but suspicion is likely to fall on Islamist militant group Boko Haram. The Islamists have been waging an increasingly bloody insurgency in the northeast.
