30 Greats Shortlisted For Nigeria Music Hall Of Fame (See List)


The organising committee of the Nigeria Music Hall of Fame has released the list of 30 great musicians, both living and dead, to be inducted into the first ever Music Hall of Fame. The great music.


icons to be inducted include: Dan Maraya Jos, Maman Shetta, Commander Ebenezer Obey, King Sunny Ade, Sir Shina Peters, Sir Victor Olaiya,Victor Uwaifo, Bright Chemezie, Chief Oliver De Couque, I.K. Dairo, Chief Eddy Okonta, Chief Osita Osadebe, Prince Nico Nbanga, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, and Orlando Owoh. Femi Kuti, Christy Essien Igbokwe, Onyeka Onwenu, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, Alhaji Ayinde Barrister, Queen Salawa Abeni, the Good Women Choir, Evangelist Bola Are, Chris Okotie, Bongos Ikwe, Evangelist Sunny Okosuns, Tuface Idibia, Majek Fashek, Ras Kimono and Fatai Rolling Dollar.

The 30 music icons will be inducted in June at a temporary hall in the National Museum, Onikan, Lagos State. The much talked about event, which promises to be a grand one, will have the National Life Patron, President Goodluck Jonathan, on ground inducting the selected musicians into the Music Hall of Fame. Nigeria Breweries Plc, had put its weight behind the project with his Star brand and ready to sponsor the building of the museum.

The project Director, Deji Adedeji, said: “There are several awards and ceremonies celebrating Nigerian musicians, but we believe there is a need to establish a credible platform to celebrate the outstanding veterans, men and women, in death and the living ones who have contributed immensely to the creation and development of the Nigeria music industry.

“The vision behind Nigeria Music Hall of Fame is multi-faceted. We will celebrate both the past and present musicians in their efforts in portraying the Nigerian entity through music to the world. It is to also immortalise Nigerian music legends that have over the years made commendable contributions to the growth and development of music in Nigeria.”

The PMAN-Nigeria Music Hall of Fame (PMAN-NMHF) was initiated and launched in 2009, to honour, preserve and present the heritage of the music, its players and the music business by honoring achievement in talent, performance, writing, technical and business aspects of the industry; to perpetuate the music and music business of Nigeria and our legacy of excellence by presenting and aiding selected new talent.
The PMAN-Nigeria Music Hall of Fame (PMAN-NMHF) museum will be a vibrant tourist destination that would be experiential and interactive for visitors and students from all over the world to share a meaningful educational experience and create inspiring lifetime memories.

This project being a new phenomenon avowed commitment to the strategic repositioning of the music industry in Nigeria is designed for the optimum benefit of all stakeholders, and also for the growth and development of our dear nation, Nigeria, through the performing and creative arts.
